Visionary Consultation provides step-by-step support to help your company achieve 50001 Ready recognition, ISO 50001 certification and Superior Energy Performance 50001 certification. We partner with commercial and industrial sites to guide them along the path to certification, starting from wherever they may be on their strategic energy management journey all the way through the certification audit.
ISO 50001 is a voluntary global standard for energy management systems in industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities. We are a contributing member of the ISO 50001 standard committee, so we understand it well and work to improve it with each new edition. ISO 50001 certification is for facilities that are serious about strategic energy management, as it includes developing continual improvement processes that are auditable to the standard.
We partner with businesses to guide them along the certification path, starting from wherever they may be on their strategic energy management journey through the certification audit.
For beginners, we can start with a gap analysis and training. For the more advanced, we can develop the processes and documentation required to establish an energy management system. We can also perform practice certification audits and be present when the required third-party audit takes place for certification. We do not stop there, either, or will remain your consultant to help your staff meet the ongoing requirements of internal audits. ISO 50001 certification is typically a corporate decision, and when we are engaged, we make sure to complement your teams at the facility level.
Energy Management (ISO 50001)
ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems or the EnMS standard was written to support the urgent need in the world today to reduce greenhouse gasses (GHG) through efficient energy use. According to the ISO Secretary-General:
The urgency to reduce GHG emissions, the reality of higher prices from reduced availability of fossil fuels, and the need to promote efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources provide a strong rationale for developing this new standard, building on the most advanced good practices and existing national or regional standards.
ISO 50001 establishes an international framework for industrial plants or entire companies to manage all aspects of energy, including procurement and use. The standard provides organizations and companies with technical and management strategies to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs, and improve environmental performance. Based on broad applicability across national economic sectors, the standard could influence up to 60% of the world’s energy demand. Corporations, supply chain partnerships, utilities, energy service companies, and others are expected to use ISO 50001 as a tool to reduce energy intensity use and carbon emissions in their facilities (as well as those belonging to their customers or suppliers) and to benchmark their achievements.
The goal of the ISO 50001 standard is to:
- Assist organizations in making better use of their existing energy-consuming assets.
- Offer guidance on benchmarking, measuring, documenting, and reporting energy intensity improvements and their projected impact on reductions in GHG emissions.
- Create transparency and facilitate communication on the management of energy resources.
- Promote energy management best practices and reinforce good energy management behaviors.
- Assist facilities in evaluating and prioritizing the implementation of new energy-efficient technologies.
- Provide a framework for promoting energy efficiency throughout the supply chain.
- Facilitate energy management improvements in the context of GHG emission reduction projects.
